The crash of Lando and Max, Mercedes back on top step

Max and Lando fought hard for the victory, but George Russel left as the winner ahead of Piastri and Sainz

After the start of the race, Max held the first place and slowly moved away from Lando, right in the first corner Leclerc broke his front wing and had to go to the pit immediately. In the third lap, Lewis got in front of Russell, but he immediately passed him back, and Lewis lost another position when he had to give up his fourth place to Sainz after he ran him off the track in the first corner. In the 7th lap, Oscar Piastri dealt with Perez and after a wonderful maneuver passed him on the outside. Even Fernando Alonso did not leave today without controversy after he collided with Zhou on lap 20, for which he received a 10-second penalty. There was also a spark among the Alpina riders, who had a big fight and in turn 3 even Ocon pushed Gasly off the track, but Gasly eventually managed to get in front of Ocon.

On the 52nd lap, Lando and Max entered the pits for the second time, Max had a slower stop and when leaving the mechanic, he drove directly into the path of Lando, who had to brake suddenly, this was subsequently investigated, but no penalty was awarded. Lando managed to get closer to Max after the stops and they started to fight for the victory, although Lando had DRS but still wasn't close enough to overtake Max. In lap 59, he tried in turn 3, but went off the track and passed Max, who then passed him back into turn 4. In lap 63, he tried again, this time they both went off the track. But on lap 64, Lando tried again in turn 3, but on the outside, Max pushed him out a bit and there was contact between his rear wheel and Lando's front wing, and they both got a puncture. Max was able to continue after changing the tires, but Lando had to retire
from the race. Max ended up in fifth place even after adding a 10-second penalty.

This meant that Russel, who had been driving in third place until now, was driving for his second career victory since the first one in Brazil in 2022. Oscar Piastri got to second place ahead of Sainz at the last moment.

A very good result was also recorded by Haas, who finished in sixth and eighth place and together they collected more points today than in the whole of last year.
