As winter approaches, many European motorsport series are coming to the end of their racing seasons. Among them is the Ginetta Junior Championship, which held its final race of the season in early October at the British circuit Donington Park.
One of the participating drivers was Revie Lake, representing Elite Motorsport. This was his very first season as a racing driver, meaning he had to adapt to a new car, a new environment, and new race tracks.
This was your very first year in Ginetta Juniors – what are the biggest positives you’re taking away from this season?
Well, to start, I’ve completed my first ever full season of racing. I can take away the fact that I’ve raced for the first time ever, I didn’t stop improving throughout the season, and to wrap it up — becoming the Freshman Champion.
In which areas of your driving do you feel you’ve improved the most over the year?
The main thing is that I now know what it’s like to drive a race car compared to a year ago, when it was roughly my first ever day in a car. So I can definitely say I’ve come a long way since then.
What was the toughest moment of the season for you – something that really tested you as a driver?
I think personally the toughest part was doing my first ever race. Getting it out of the way was a big task for me, but it all paid off. Then, in the first half of the season, it was about dealing with disappointment — not finishing races — but from Snetterton onwards, I became a lot more consistent, confident, and faster.
Honestly, I think over the past year I’ve become more confident in the car and better at letting the car correct itself instead of me overcorrecting and making silly mistakes, which has definitely reduced. Racing-wise, my racecraft has come a long way — definitely not the best, but 100% not the worst!
Do you already have an idea of what your plans might be for next season?
My plans for next year aren’t decided yet, but I guess we’ll have to see soon…
This was a breakthrough season for Revie — one he can build on in the future and continue improving as a driver. And as he said, his plans for next season are not yet fully decided, but we believe we’ll see him back on track fighting again.
