Genesis has successfully completed its first shakedown with the GMR-001, which likely took place at Paul Ricard.
Drivers André Lotterer and Pipo Derani completed the first runs with the test chassis of the GMR-001, with assistance from ORECA, the company responsible for the chassis. Before that, the drivers spent some time in the simulator to establish the car’s baseline setup and calibration. The LMDh car will make its debut next year in the WEC series, and a year later it is expected to join the American IMSA endurance racing series.
Genesis also plans to build three more cars ahead of testing on European circuits. Francois-Xavier Demaison, technical director of the Hyundai Motorsport organisation masterminding the programme, said: “Every bit of running we do with the GMR-001 Hypercar in 2025 is extremely valuable.
“The work in preparation that Andre and Pipo have done on the simulator and during the shakedown means that we have a good starting point for the first tests.”
“We are at a time where we seem to be passing milestones every day, but that is exactly what we must be doing,” said team principal Cyril Abiteboul.
“After planning for and talking about these moments for the past eight months, to be able to see a finished car running exactly as we planned is incredibly exciting.”
