According to multiple sources, including RacingNews365.com, the Finnish driver is believed to have signed a deal with the newly arriving Cadillac team for next season. The official announcement is expected as early as next week, ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix.
From next season, Cadillac will be using Ferrari engines until GM is fully ready to produce its own power units for Formula 1. Cadillac is also expected to carry out a TPC (Testing of Previous Cars) session later this year. However, since Cadillac currently has no previous F1 car of its own, Ferrari is expected to help by lending one of their older cars. The American team primarily plans to use the session to practice pit stops and test garage and pit equipment to ensure everything is fully prepared for racing operations next year.
As for the second seat, Sergio Pérez is most likely to be confirmed. Cadillac is therefore set to go with two very experienced drivers—something this brand-new team needs more than anything else.
