who is the "Leonardo da Vinci" of Formula 1?

Adrian Newey is a 65-year-old British designer who still prefers a drawing board to modern software.

His career started in the Fittipaldi team, so he worked as a race engineer for a while, which gave him valuable know-how for the future, but outside of F1, Newey also worked in the Idycar and IMSA teams. Newey also worked for a while in the Haas Lola F1 team, then in 1987 he was Mario Andretti's race engineer.

Newey's first F1 car design was with the March/Leyton House team. from 1991 to 1996, Adrian worked in the Williams team and in 1992 he celebrated his first constructor's title and a year later his second. In 1994, his reputation suffered after the fatal accident of Ayrton Senna, who died tragically in his designed Williams. In his book, he mentions and admits that this car was not yet fully tuned and needed some time to improve it. He won another title in 1996 and 1997.

At the same time in 1997 he joined the Mclaren team, where together with Mika Hakinnen in 1998-1999 he also won titles.

In 2001, Newey was supposed to sign with the Jaguar team under the leadership of Niki Lauda, but then McLaren director Ron Dennis did not like that very much, who convinced him to stay, his tenure at McLaren ended in 2005.

In November 2005, Redbull racing confirmed the arrival of Adrian, but he hesitated with the offer, but finally accepted it after David Coulthard, with whom he had already introduced himself in McLaren, convinced him to join the team. He scored his first title with Redbull in 2010 with Vettel and the following 3 seasons were under the direction of Redbull, with the introduction of new rules in 2014, Redbull struggled with their Renault power units, they recorded another title in 2021 where they were able to challenge the dominant Mercedes, but this year they only won the driver's title, the constructor's title they won in the following two seasons 2022, 2023.

In the spring of this year, Adriana's departure from Redbull was announced and this week he was officially confirmed at Aston Martin.
