Alpine has officially confirmed that they are ending the development of its power unit!
Alpine and Renault have been struggling with the performance of their power units for a long time, so there was long speculation that Alpine would end the development of its own power units and that they should even buy engines from Mercedes.
On Monday 30. of September Alpine announced that at the end of 2025 will stop developing its own PU and from 2026 it will be a customer team, it should probably come to an agreement with Mercedes.
The factory in Viry-Châtillon will be used for other projects such as their sports car. The new engineering center, which will be called Hypertech Alpine, will start working this year and will work on more projects.
“Following consultation and dialogue with staff representatives at Viry-Châtillon, Alpine has decided to set up an F1 monitoring unit. The aim of this unit will be to maintain the knowledge and skills of employees in the sport and to remain at the forefront of innovation for Hypertech Alpine projects,” said Alpine.
