One of the most prestigious GT racing series in the world, DTM is getting ready for its final weekend at the Hockenheimring, where the new champion will be crowned. The fight is expected to go down to the last corner of the final lap, as six drivers still have a chance to win the title.
As always, two races on Saturday and Sunday are waiting for the drivers, meaning that a total of 50 points are still up for grabs.
Thomas Preining, driving the yellow Manthey Porsche, is heading into the weekend with a 23-point advantage over second-placed Mercedes driver Maro Engel. But they are not the only ones in the title fight, as Marco Wittmann, representing Schubert Motorsport, is only 24 points behind the championship leader. Another Mercedes driver, Lucas Auer, also has a chance to be crowned champion on Sunday, as he is 43 points behind.
DTM debutant Matteo Cairoli, who drives the unmistakable pink Ferrari of Emil Frey Racing, is currently 47 points away from the lead, but he has shown this season that he definitely has what it takes to become a DTM champion.
The final title contender is Aston Martin driver Nicki Thiim, who is 50 points behind Preining.
DTM always brings a top-class motorsport show, with drivers pushing their cars to the absolute limit. Everything can happen in the final minutes of a race. The perfect example of that is last year's season finale at the Hockenheimring, where Ayhancan Güven secured his maiden DTM title with a risky move on Marco Wittmann just a few corners before the finish line. That move ultimately secured him the championship.
