Recently, there have been a lot of rumors surrounding Verstappen’s race engineer. These have now been confirmed, as Red Bull Racing announced his departure from the team yesterday. Shortly after, McLaren officially confirmed that he will join the team in 2028.
"The role of the Chief Racing Officer already exists within the team’s structure, with overall leadership of the race team. These duties are currently managed by Andrea Stella in addition to his role as Team Principal. Lambiase is the latest hire designed to strengthen and support the talent pool that exists at McLaren Mastercard, while also reaffirming the team’s long-term commitment to confirming its position as a Championship-winning team." That's said in the Mclaren's statement.
Gianpiero Lambiase was born on October 14, 1980, in Bedford, England. He began his Formula 1 career in 2005 with the Jordan Grand Prix team, where he stayed for the next 11 years, even as the team was rebranded into Midland F1 Racing, then Spyker F1 Team, and later Force India. In 2008, he worked as a performance engineer for Italian driver Giancarlo Fisichella.
In 2010, he became a race engineer for Vitantonio Liuzzi, and later took on the same role for Paul di Resta. He worked with di Resta for three years before the Scot was replaced by Sergio Pérez in 2014.
After working with the Mexican driver for just one season, he moved to Red Bull Racing, where he has served as race engineer to Max Verstappen from his very first race with the team up to the present.
