Revie Lake has announced the direction his motorsport career will take. For this season, he is moving from Ginetta Junior Championship to British GT Championship, where he will compete in a McLaren Artura GT4 with Mahiki Racing.
After a year in Ginetta Junior, where Revie gained his first and very important experience as a racing driver, he now steps up to British GT for the upcoming season. It is a highly competitive and prestigious GT championship with a strong reputation in the world of motorsport. "I think, personally, the step up from Ginetta Juniors to British GT is a big one, but I also believe it’s a challenge I’m ready to take on. It will be a tough fight, as British GT is a very competitive series with high-level drivers, and GT4 is a necessary step before moving up to GT3, which is my main goal. This year, I’ll be aiming high while learning every day to become the best driver I can be."
What goals and ambitions is he heading into his debut season in this championship with? "I have a few goals. Firstly, to win the championship. Secondly, to win round one and create history as the youngest race winner in British GT." Revie will be 16 years and 146 days old during the opening race weekend at Silverstone Circuit, giving him the chance to surpass Sandy Mitchell as the youngest winner in British GT Championship. "And thirdly, to earn my BRDC membership, which would be a great achievement to have on my CV as a young driver."
At the same time, entering a championship like the British GT can bring a certain level of pressure that he will have to deal with. "British GT is a big championship and has been known as one of the most competitive series for a long time. It may not be as big as GT World Challenge, which is the ultimate goal, but it’s still very well-known and highly competitive. When it comes to pressure at such a young age, I don’t really feel it all the time. There are moments when I do feel it more, especially because I have big goals to achieve, but we’ll see how it goes."
The new season will also bring a number of new challenges, but which ones is Revie Lake most looking forward to? "Some of the things I’m most looking forward to are racing in my dad’s team, competing in the McLaren GT4, and finally racing at Spa — which will be an amazing experience."
This step by Revie Lake is crucial for his future in motorsport and the development of his driving skills, while also bringing him closer to competing in GT3 machinery.
The season gets underway on April 26 at Silverstone, with all races broadcast live on the GT World YouTube channel or Sky Sports F1.
