On the throne of the championship leader now sits a new face — Lando Norris. After an absolutely dominant race, the McLaren driver leads the standings by just one point ahead of his teammate Oscar Piastri.

While Norris returns to the top, Piastri seems to be losing not only points but also pace. In qualifying, he was a massive four-tenths behind Norris and had to start from seventh on the grid. Although he managed to make up several places during the race, fifth was the best he could do.

The red cars from Maranello are back in the fight — at least when it comes to podium finishes. After securing third place in Texas thanks to Leclerc, Ferrari continued in the same rhythm in Mexico. Charles started from P2 and Hamilton from P3 — his best starting position in a Grand Prix this season. However, only Leclerc made it to the podium, while Hamilton dropped to eighth after a 10-second penalty for “leaving the track and gaining an advantage.” His wait for a first podium of the season continues.

Red Bull has found a new spark in recent races, with Max Verstappen slowly closing the gap to the McLaren drivers ahead. On Friday, Verstappen complained about low grip, which showed in qualifying where he finished fourth. In the race, he struggled on the medium tyres and couldn’t match Norris’ pace. Still, he claimed the final podium spot and cut five points from Piastri’s advantage — the gap between them now stands at 35 points.

Mercedes spent most of the weekend under the radar — until Russell began demanding a position swap, insisting he had more pace than Kimi and could challenge for the podium. The team eventually agreed, but by then, Russell had lost the momentum to catch the cars ahead. In the end, it was P6 for Kimi and P7 for George.

Perhaps the standout performance of the weekend came from Ollie Bearman, who climbed from ninth on the grid to an impressive fourth place. At one point, he even went wheel-to-wheel with Verstappen in a fierce battle, earning a well-deserved 12 points.

In just two weeks, Formula 1 heads to South America, specifically São Paulo, Brazil, for the next Sprint Weekend.
