Ahead of us is the final DTM race weekend of this season, and the champion is still yet to be decided. The gap between the leading drivers is only a few points. The current championship leader is Lucas Auer with 171 points. Just seven points behind him is Jordan Pepper, while third-placed René Rast trails Auer by only 11 points.
Each race weekend features two races, which means a maximum of 50 points is available (25 points for a win), plus up to three points for pole position. This means that mathematically, around the top nine drivers still have a chance at the title. The decisive showdown will take place at Germany’s Hockenheimring from October 9–11.
Now, let’s look back at the penultimate race of the season at the Red Bull Ring, which took place last weekend. Saturday was dominated by BMW duo René Rast and Marco Wittmann. Although Marco claimed pole position, it was his brand teammate Rast who took the victory in Saturday’s race.
For Sunday’s race, pole position was surprisingly secured by Vermeulen, who even led part of the race. However, he was soon caught by Ricardo Feller in his Audi, who went on to win the race.
