After the June race at Le Mans, the WEC series moved to Brazil, specifically to São Paulo, where the traditional six-hour race was on the program. In Saturday’s qualifying, the #12 Cadillac secured pole position with the fastest lap time. Just like at Le Mans, Cadillac locked out the front row of the starting grid.

At the start of the race, the factory Porsche Penske #5 took the lead, but it didn’t take long before Cadillac reclaimed the top spot, which it held for the remainder of the race. The #12 crew—Alex Lynn, Norman Nato, and Will Stevens—crossed the finish line first, earning Cadillac, in Jota Sport colors, its maiden WEC victory. Right behind them was the sister #38 crew with drivers Earl Bamber, Sébastien Bourdais, and Jenson Button, giving Cadillac a 1-2 finish. Porsche Penske #5 completed the podium in third place.

“This is now year number three racing this car, and honestly, seeing what it has become in the hands of JOTA and what the programme has become as well, I’m extremely grateful to be a part of it and honoured to finally win a race in the FIA World Endurance Championship for Cadillac. This is just the beginning – I think we can achieve everything we dream of with this partnership. The sky’s the limit, and I’m so excited!” said Alex Lynn.

As for the dominant Ferrari, it received a significant Balance of Performance (BoP) adjustment ahead of the race weekend, and it showed throughout the race weekend. Neither of the factory Ferraris made it into Hyperpole, and the race followed a similar pattern—neither of the factory cars finished in the top ten. The only Ferrari Hypercar that scored points was the #83 car from the AF Corse team.

This marks the first time this season that Ferrari did not win, ending their streak of four consecutive victories. Despite this setback, the team from Maranello still holds a comfortable 55-point lead in the championship standings.

The WEC now heads into a break until September 7, when the series resumes in Austin, Texas.
