Oscar Piastri secured pole position for the sprint race on Friday, with Max Verstappen in second, splitting the two McLarens. Third on the grid was Lando Norris.

Right on the opening lap, Max Verstappen—helped by the lower drag of his rear wing compared to the McLarens—managed to take the lead from Piastri at the end of the Camel Straight. Charles Leclerc, who started fourth, got ahead of Norris into third. For the rest of the sprint, Max Verstappen gave neither Piastri nor Norris, who fought his way back into third, any chance. The Dutchman, who is half Belgian, claimed his twelfth career sprint race victory.
