Ferrari has been intensively working on its new rear suspension for some time now. Initially, it was supposed to debut in Silverstone, but the upgrade will finally make its appearance this weekend in Spa. Ferrari took advantage of a so-called filming day, during which a team is allowed to run its current car on track for up to 200 kilometers.
This filming day took place last week at Mugello, where Antonio Giovinazzi and Guanyu Zhou were also driving as part of TPC (Testing of Previous Cars) sessions, where teams are allowed to run older cars.
The new rear suspension was fitted to the SF-25, and it's expected to improve Ferrari’s lap time by roughly one tenth of a second per lap. Whether the upgrade will deliver the desired effect remains to be seen in Spa—where, notably, the sprint weekend format will be used, meaning there will only be one practice session. That was also one of the reasons behind the decision to use the filming day.
