Sweet for Lando, bittersweet for rookies

Lando Norris won the chaotic Australian Grand Prix, ahead of Verstappen and Russell. Most of the rookies did not finish the race.

The race started in wet conditions, with many drivers suffering, including Hadjar, who crashed slightly in the formation lap. Jack Doohan crashed on the first lap, and Carlos Sainz crashed on the last corner of the second lap. The race has been restarted on lap seven with Lando holding the lead ahead of Verstappen.

Soon the safety car had to come out again when Fernando Alonso also crashed on lap 34, the other drivers took advantage of this and put on slicks. On lap 41 the race started again and McLaren held the first two positions, that changed on lap 44 when both drivers went off the track in turn 14, Lando held on but Oscar got stuck on the grass and lost several positions, in the meantime it started to rain heavily again and the drivers headed back to the pits for intermediate tires. The only ones who stayed on the track were Verstappen, both Ferraris, Gasly and Tsunoda. Everyone except both Ferraris and Tsunoda went into the pits on lap 46. A lap later Lawson crashed, following up on his failed qualifying, on the same lap Bortoleto also crashed and the safety car came out on the track again. Ferrari did not go into the pits until lap 48, which dropped both drivers to ninth and tenth place.

The race has been restarted on lap 52, with Norris in the lead, Verstappen behind him and Russell in third. The order of the top three did not change until the end of the race. Antonelli, who started from sixteenth place after an unsuccessful qualifying, moved up to fourth place ahead of Albon towards the end of the race. Australian hero Oscar Piastri managed to get to ninth place after his mistake.

Mclaren is now leading the championship, but Mercedes has as many points as Mclaren, anyway Mclaren won a race so they are in the lead now. Third is Red Bull, Ferrari only seventh.
