Ford today announced its entry into the WEC's top hypercar category from 2027.
Ford will join the top category of the WEC from 2027. Currently, there are 8 different manufacturers competing in this category: Ferrari, Toyota, Porsche, Alpine, Peugeot, BMW, Cadillac and now Aston Martin. Genesis will join the grid from 2026 and the aforementioned Ford from 2027, so we can say that the golden age of endurance racing is here.

Ford has raced at Le Mans before, and successfully, in the 1960s they took on the dominant Ferrari and between 1966 and 1969 Ford won Le Mans four times with its GT40. Ford triumphed not only in the top category but also in the GTE pro category, in 2016 Ford won in this category on the 50th anniversary of the 1966 triumph.
Ford will build the LMDh car, not the LMD, which means it could potentially compete in the American IMSA endurance racing category, but Ford has so far only announced its participation in the WEC.
