The race Sunday started quite unusually, as the qualifying session, which is usually held on Saturday, was moved to Sunday morning due to heavy rain on Saturday. However, it wasn't dry on Sunday either, and we saw several red flags during qualifying. Alex Albon was the most affected, as he crashed his Williams in the first corner and, due to significant damage, was unable to start the race. Carlos Sainz had to start from the pit lane.
Even the start of the race was not without problems, as Stroll got stuck during the formation lap, delaying the start and forcing the entire pre-start procedure to be redone. The actual start was relatively calm, and George Russell took the lead. Shortly after, Bearman made contact with Colapinto, earning a 10-second penalty and losing several positions. Another collision occurred when Piastri hit Lawson, also resulting in a 10-second penalty. The rain then intensified, and Hulkenberg went off track, getting stuck on a bump. Although the track marshals helped him, Nico soon received a black flag for receiving outside assistance.
In lap 29, Norris and Russell pitted, but a safety car was deployed shortly after due to the large amount of water on the track. Colapinto lost control of his car and crashed into the barrier, causing a red flag. This was a nightmare for Lando and George, as Ocon, Max and Gasly managed to get past them during their pit stops, and essentially benefitted from a free stop during a red flag.
By lap 34, we were racing again, with George managing to get past Lando. Soon after, there was another red flag when Sainz crashed for the second time in one day. Following the restart, Lando had a poor start and lost several positions, while Verstappen took the lead, which he maintained until the end of the race, finishing 19 seconds ahead of Ocon. The McLarens swapped positions so Lando wouldn't lose time and could continue attacking, but he could only manage to finish in 6th place.
On the podium, we saw Max, who once again demonstrated his qualities and effectively secured his fourth title, although Lando can still mathematically win the title. Both Alpines joined Max on the podium after a disastrous season.
